Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Donna Straw, passed away the afternoon of January 25, 2024, in Winter Park Florida at the age of 97.
She passed peacefully and we find comfort knowing that she is now at rest in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Donna was born on October 11, 1926, in Mercer County, Union Township Ohio, to Oral and Goldie Marie Rickard. She was united in marriage to Robert Rex Straw on July 3, 1948, and they were married for 51 years. They had two children and moved to Winter Park Florida in 1962 where she remained for the next 62 years.
She was employed by the J.C. Penney Company as a sales associate for 41 years and was an independent delivery carrier for the Orlando Sentinel for 25 years and later the Wall Street Journal. She had been a member of Calvery Presbyterian Church, now College Park Presbyterian Church.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband Robert Rex Straw, sister Betty June Straw (Jason), sister Jo Ann Clark, brother Oral ‘Gene’ Rickard and sister-in-law Beth Ann Davis (Robert), all of whom she missed and loved.
Donna is survived by her son Rex Lee Straw (Terri) Oviedo, grandson Robert Lindon Straw (Kim) Altamonte Springs, great grandsons Evan Straw and Connor Straw. Daughter Tish Marie Wright (David) Maitland, granddaughter Stacey Marie Wright (Joshua) Sanford, grandson Gregory Ackerman, Deltona, great grandson Damon Ackerman and great granddaughter Sophie Ackerman. Donna is also survived by a host of nephews and nieces all of whom she loved dearly; and last but not least, she is survived by her beloved “favorite child” her canine companion of many years Rocco who brought her many hours of joy.
The family would like to thank the staff at Vivant Senior Care, Hibiscus Oaks, Vitas Healthcare and Dr. Kelly Higgins for their compassionate care of mom in her final years. We would also like to thank Dr. Morteza Mashkouri her family physician for many years and the Doctors at Florida Cancer Centers for their exceptional care over the years that greatly contributed to her longevity and quality of life.
