A 32-year-old man from Ocoee will spend nearly four years behind bars after he was caught with a firearm during a traffic stop.
Desha Cooper was sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Wendy W. Berger in the Middle District of Florida this week.
According to court records, on February 3, 2023, an officer from the Orlando Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was being driven by Cooper.
The officer observed a loaded firearm on the driver’s side floorboard in the vehicle. At the time, Cooper fled the scene on foot.
Cooper was later located by the United States Marshals Service and arrested. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of another firearm.
Cooper has been convicted of multiple felonies in the past and has served time in federal prison. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.
Cooper pled guilty to charges of possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon last October.
