James Michael Knight

James Michael Knight, 70, of Orlando, deaprted this life on Sunday, February 4, 2024. James, known only as “Mike” by family and friends alike, was born on March 10, 1953 to the late James and Lucille C. Knight in Orlando, Florida. He was the eldest son in a family of 8 siblings. He touted the title first born son very well-he was always Mama’s Baby!

Born to a military father afforded Mike the experiences of travel both in the US and Internationally. At 10 years old, he was able to experience life in West Germany for 3 years. This experience helped him to excel educationally. After military retirement, the family returned to residence in Orlando, Florida. He attended Carver Jr. High and Edgewater High School where he became known as the “Smart One” amongst his peers. Mike graduated from High School in 1971 and went on to attend The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. After 2 years, he left College and decided to join the US Navy. Upon his return home, Mike set up a Home Based Tax Business where he assisted neighborhood friends with their income taxes.

During off seasons, he could be found doing Handyman services especially for the elderly in the neighborhood. The house phone would always ring with someone calling for his help. He would go willingly.

He leaves his only daughter, Michelle Renee Hill (Cortez); 2 Grandsons, Cameron Hill (Jordyn), Brandon Hill and 1 Great Grandson, Micah Hill; 1 Brother, Jeffrey Shaun Knight; 3 Sisters, Gebbie Barrett, Donna Knight-Rolle and Deena Knight; 1 Aunt, Mamie Knight, Dublin, Georgia along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until services begin at 5:00 p.m., Postell’s Mortuary Chapel, Orlando with Pastor Octavius L. Smith, officiating.
