Motorcyclist killed, passenger critical after accident on SR 46

A 44-year-old motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was critically injured after a sport utility vehicle turned in front of their vehicle on State Road 46.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of SR 46 and Richmond Avenue on Thursday, February 8.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist, who was from Geneva, was riding a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle with a 47-year-old woman from Geneva. The motorcycle was traveling eastbound on State Road 46, approaching Richmond Drive.

At the same time, a 24-year-old man from Vero Beach was driving a 2010 Honda CRV westbound on SR 46 when he attempted to make a left turn to travel south on Richmond Avenue.

As a result, the Honda CRV entered the direct path of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to collide with the right side of the vehicle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passenger was transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Honda was transported to Oviedo Medical Center with minor injuries.
