Clarence Riggs

Clarence Riggs died peacefully in Orlando, FL on February 9, 2024 at the age of 86.
He was born in 1937 in Indianapolis, IN to Chester and Mabel Riggs.

He grew up in the Midwest and graduated with an accounting degree from Indiana State in 1960, then obtained a Masters of Taxation from DePaul University. He moved to Florida in 1974 and lived in Winter Park for the last 35 years of his life. He was a CPA for over 50 years and had a brilliant mind for taxation. He enjoyed speaking and teaching continuing education courses, somehow managing to make income tax entertaining.

In his younger years, he was very athletic and enjoyed sailing, tennis, diving, and running. Later, he enjoyed golfing, biking, and studying history as well as snuggling with his dog Wilson. Throughout his life, he studied the game of chess and tried to influence others to enjoy it as well.

Riggs will always be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor that could sometimes catch you off guard. He would probably have said that he was “older than dirt” when he passed away. You could not ask for a more generous man, a great father and a loving husband.

Riggs was preceded in death by his son Dennis, his brother Eugene and his two nephews Eugene Jr “JR” and Barry. He is survived by his wife Julie, his twin sister Claris (Phil) and his daughters Mindy (Larry) and Becky (Patrick). He is also survived by 5 nieces and nephews, as well as 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
