Teen riding scooter seriously injured after accident with SUV

A 16-year-old Orlando girl is in serious condition after she was struck by a sport utility vehicle while attempting to cross a road on her scooter.

The accident took place near the intersection of Avalon Park Boulevard and Golden Isle Boulevard on Friday, February 16, at around 8:44 a.m.

According to a statement from the Florida Highway Patrol, the girl was crossing the Avalon Park Boulevard crosswalk in a northerly direction at the roadway’s intersection with Golden Isle Boulevard.

As she was crossing, she was struck by a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan that was traveling southbound on Avalon Park Boulevard.

According to FHP, the driver, a 26-year-old Orlando woman, ran a red light and crashed into the girl while she was in the crosswalk.

The girl was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver was not injured in the accident.
