William Joseph Shega

Shega, William, 81. Transitioned peacefully to heaven on February 19, 2024 after a 14 year battle with stage 4 colon cancer. He was at his home in Clermont, Florida with family by his side under the care of Vitas Healthcare.

Bill was born on July 29, 1942 in Joliet, Illinois and previously resided in Crest Hill, Illinois. He is the son of the late Joseph Shega and Ann (nee Dranchak) Shega.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Ann (nee Jungels) Shega; one brother, Richard Shega; and one brother-in-law, Lawrence Jungles. He is also survived by four children: sons William (Kelley) Shega of Woodlawn, Illinois; Dr. Joseph (Peter) Shega of Gotha, Florida; and David (Jessica) Shega of Yorkville, Illinois; and daughter Melinda (Randy) Lenci of Windermere, Florida. He is survived by 11 grandchildren: Justin (Brittany) Wallen; Andrea Shega; Kayla (Chris) Hamm; Kayla (Blake) Snow; Luke, Drew, Brock, Zack, and Abbey Lenci; and Mary and William Shega. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.

Bill was a graduate of Plainfield High School (Class of 1960) and Aurora University. One of his fondest memories was being a member of the band in high school. Bill retired 30 years ago from Commonwealth Edison in Joliet. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and volunteering with Meals on Wheels and hospice. He enjoyed rehabbing houses and traveling. He also had a passion for old-time cars.

Bill (Papa) was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. We would like to thank Vitas Healthcare for their wonderful care.

The family is planning a graveside service/celebration of life in Illinois on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Plainfield Township Cemetery.
