Rahonie Gill, a pillar of strength, compassion, and love, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 27th, after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Born on March 15th, 1969, in Georgetown, Guyana, to the late George Pokan and Shontas George, Indira was the eldest of seven siblings.
From a young age, she exemplified resilience and compassion, often caring for her siblings and creating cherished memories, from fishing in the canals of Guyana with her father to indulging in the simple joy of eating mangoes by the bucketful. Despite the challenges, Indira completed her high school education. Indira’s brave spirit led her and her family to Orlando, Florida, in November 1989, in pursuit of greater opportunities.
Her career spanned hospitality, transportation, and real estate, reflecting her many talents and unyielding work ethic. In 2012, she found love with John Gill, marrying him after a year-long courtship and sharing twelve years of partnership and love. A lover of nature, she found joy in cooking, fishing, gardening, and bird watching, embracing the beauty of life in her everyday passions.
