Valerie Sue Martin, 65, of Orlando, FL passed away February 10, 2024. Val moved to IA at age 16 and graduated from Harlan High School, class of 1977.
She was married for 16 years to Mark and had 3 children from this union. Val worked as a waitress, a nursing assistant, and truly enjoyed having an in-home child daycare. While living in Omaha, NE she worked as a telemarketer before moving back to Orlando with Destiny’s father Jim, who she shared a 16-year union with as well. Val was a member of the Harrell Road Church of Christ and appreciated many services with her parents, daughter Destiny, close family, and friends.
Val very much enjoyed growing her outdoor plants including her avocado trees and roses, crocheting, sewing, thrift shopping, spending time watching the news or reading her Bible, and writing down little quotes or poems. Some of her favorites included Mickey Mouse, elephants, American Indian décor, and the colors green, mauve, and hot pink. Val was a breast cancer survivor of 20 years and was diagnosed in 2022 with pancreatic cancer. Val fought a long and brave battle; her faith was enduring, and her strength was inspiring. She was so grateful for family and friends’ help over the past several years during her fight.
Val was preceded in death by her mother Glenna Sue Wise and granddaughter Jocelyn. She is survived by her children Melissa (Jeff) Witt, Maria (Matt) Niedermyer, Johnathan “John” (Annie) Martin, Destiny Holstein and 11 grandchildren; her father Irvin Wise; siblings Victoria “Vicki” (Tom) Bower, Laurel Wise, and Howard (Saralee) Wise.
