Motorcyclist, passenger killed in high-speed crash at Deltona intersection

Two people were killed, and two others were injured, after a speeding motorcycle struck an SUV in Volusia County on Tuesday evening.

Shortly after 6 p.m., a 2007 Yamaha sport bike was heading southbound on N Normandy Boulevard, near the intersection of Sullivan Street, in Deltona, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

At the same intersection, a Mazda SUV was in the process of making a left turn onto Sullivan Street when its right front fender was struck by the motorcycle. The sheriff’s office stated that the motorcycle was traveling at an “extremely high rate of speed” at the time of the crash.

After the impact, the motorcycle’s two occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Witnesses rushed over to them and attempted lifesaving measures.

Deltona Fire Rescue personnel soon arrived at the scene of the accident, and the motorcycle’s occupants were both pronounced deceased.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as 26-year-old Joshua E. Colon Cirino, of Deltona. The motorcycle’s adult female passenger was not immediately identified.

The two unidentified occupants of the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and were transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

In a social media post, VCSO stated that the crash was captured by a video surveillance camera in the area. According to a preliminary investigation, the motorcycle was traveling “in excess of 80 mph” when it crashed into the SUV.

The posted speed limit on Normandy Boulevard, near the intersection where the crash occurred, is 35 miles per hour.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office stated that a full crash investigation is currently underway.
