Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother of five Joyce Dornfeld Mayer, born April 18,1928 to Philip A. Sobel and Hannah Sobel( Warner) died on February 28. Preceded in death by her husbands Sidney Dornfeld and Alan Mayer. Joyce grew up in South Orange and graduated from Columbia High school.
In 1953 Joyce and Sidney moved to Millburn and then North Caldwell. They belonged to Mountain Ridge Country Club. Sidney was President of Canadians, a women’s clothing chain in the NY/NJ area. After Sidney’s death in 1982 Joyce pursued a career as a financial advisor.
In 1989 Joyce married Alan Mayer. They lived together in West Orange until moving to Palm Beach Gardens, FL, where they were members of Ballenisles Country Club. They later moved to North Palm Beach. Alan passed away in 2011.
Joyce is survived by her children Thomas (Barbara) and Patti, (3) grandchildren, Lisa( Mike), Lori (Jeremy) and Sydney and (5) great-grandchildren. In 2023 Joyce moved to Maitland, FL, to be closer to her daughter Patti Boughan. Joyce was the last of 31 first cousins.
