A father and son were found deceased in a Deltona home on Sunday morning in an apparent murder-suicide.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home located in the 1700 block of Sumatra Avenue in reference to a report that two people had been found deceased inside the residence.
When deputies arrived, they found two men who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The sheriff’s office has identified the men as 55-year-old Daniel Demarco and 34-year-old Travis Demarco.
VCSO stated that an investigation into the incident “indicates Travis Demarco fatally shot his father, then himself.”
Detectives conducted interviews and learned that Travis had been “dealing with mental health issues,” including a “serious condition” that was officially diagnosed earlier this year.
According to the sheriff’s office, Daniel had expressed concerns about his son’s mental state and behavior, and he was helping his son receive treatment and medication.
An individual who lived with Daniel and Travis had attempted to contact Daniel by phone on Sunday morning. When no response was received, the individual went to the home and discovered the bodies at around 11:30 a.m.
“The investigation is continuing, and the Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” stated the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office on Monday morning.
No further details were released by the sheriff’s office.
