Orlando police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with a shooting at the Central Florida Fairgrounds that claimed the life of a woman earlier this month.

On Thursday, March 28, members of the Orlando Police Department’s Fugitive Investigative Unit located the teen suspect, identified as Jadon Maxey, and he was placed under arrest. He is being charged with second-degree homicide with a firearm.

The fatal shooting took place on Saturday, March 2. At around 10:35 p.m., officers were called to the flea market parking lot of the fairgrounds, which is located at 4603 W Colonial Drive, in reference to shots being fired in the area.

Upon arrival, police located the victim, Veronica Ramirez, suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Officers began life-saving efforts on Ramirez and she was eventually transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Ramirez was a teacher’s assistant at Sorrento Elementary School. According to Lake County Schools, Ramirez joined the district in 2019.

No further details have been provided by Orlando police, including what led investigators to identifying Maxey as a suspect.
