Cecile Mestan

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Cecile Mestan’s passing on March 26, 2024. Following the passing of her husband, John, just 9 days earlier, Cecile joins the Lord after a wonderful 94 years.

Cecile was born in Timmins, Ontario, Canada, to Marie Therese “Lily” and Joseph Theriault and was the youngest of seven children. She is preceded in death by her siblings and parents. Cecile’s greatest joy was her family. She was loved by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is survived by her children: Richard Mestan, John Mestan (Kathy), and Michelle Schloot (Kevin). Cecile adored her five grandchildren: Suzanne (Jamison), Trin (Natalia), Christina, John, and Jennilee. She cherished visits from her two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Wendy, whom she loved dearly.

Cecile was a true homemaker. She loved to entertain and decorate her home. A lover of music, “Nana” played the piano often until recent years, bringing joy to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with her melodies. Her children will always remember what a wonderful and caring mother she was. Cecile took much pride and joy in motherhood.

Cecile was a best friend to many. She was on many tennis teams and was an active member of Florida House, Morning Star, and The Orlando Philharmonic. Cecile enjoyed being an active member of the St. Margaret Mary Church community. Her involvement with the Council of Catholic Women and prayer circles created many long-lasting friendships.

Cecile and John’s love story was one for the storybooks. They met in 1945 and later married on June 6, 1951. Together, they enjoyed dancing, listening to music, traveling, spending time with family, late-night card games with close friends, and their faith. Their love for the Lord was unmatched and was outwardly apparent in Cecile’s kindness. They were married for close to 73 years and passed peacefully in their home 9 days apart from each other.

A funeral service to celebrate the lives of Cecile and John Mestan will be held on April 19th at 11am at St. Margaret Mary Church in Altamonte Springs, Florida. All friends and family are welcome to attend and pay their respects. Though they may be gone, their memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
