A crash involving a DeLand fire truck sent one person to the hospital on Tuesday morning.
At around 10:35 a.m., DeLand Fire Department’s Engine 82 unit was responding to an emergency in the city. According to DFD, the fire truck’s lights were activated as it approached the intersection of Kepler Road and International Speedway Boulevard.
The fire department stated that a car was near the same intersection, and the driver failed to yield to the fire truck. Moments later, a collision ensued.
The driver of the car was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The three firefighters on board the fire truck were not injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol arrived on scene to investigate the crash. The car’s driver was cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and for driving with a suspended license.
“Failing to yield to an emergency vehicle can be dangerous to drivers and to our firefighters,” stated the DeLand Fire Department in a social media post. “We want to take this opportunity to remind the community to be extra cautious when you see our fire trucks so we can all share the road safely.”
