Amelia Moore Burns

Amelia Ann Burns, 89, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, in Orlando, Florida. She was born May 19, 1934, in Birmingham, Alabama. Amelia was the daughter of the late Ralph and Ethel (Gaines) Moore of Hartwell, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Russell Sherman Burns, to whom she was married for more than 50 years. She graduated from Hart County High School in Hartwell, Georgia in 1953 and was a member of The Tabernacle Church in Melbourne, Florida, and Calvary Assembly of God and Faith Assembly of God in Orlando, Florida, and most recently attended services at The Crossings Church in Winter Garden, Florida.

Amelia was a dedicated and loving Christian woman who spent her life living for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Amelia was mostly a stay-at-home mother during her children’s younger years with a part time job at the public library. She later worked as a bookkeeper in the public school system in Melbourne, Florida, from which she retired. After retirement, she worked as a file clerk for several years in her daughter’s law firm in Orlando Florida, until she and her husband began traveling the country with The Sowers, volunteering their time working on numerous projects for churches and non-profit corporations.

Amelia is survived by her daughter: Sharon (Burns) Warner of Ocoee, Florida; her sons: Charles “Charlie” Burns and wife, Sandy, of Cocoa, Florida; Joseph Brian Burns and wife, Diane, of Indian Harbor Beach, Florida; her granddaughters: Stephanie Burns of Rockledge, Florida; Dara Warner of Ocoee, Florida; McKenzie Burns of Athens, Georgia; Deanna Pinkney and husband Brian, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Joseph “Joey” Burns and wife Riki of Lake Havasu, Arizona; her great grandchildren: Freya Pinkney, Charlie Strickland, Brenna Pinkney, Hendrix Burns, and Carrington Burns.

Amelia is survived by her sisters: Joyce Jones and husband, the late Charles “Otho”, of Hartwell, Georgia; Peggy Allen and husband, Roger, of Chiefland, Florida; brother: James Sanford “Sandy” Moore and wife, Diane, of Hartwell, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

Amelia led a full long life and was the rock that held the family together. From making homemade vitamins every morning to cooking fantastic meals and desserts for family and friends. She had the sweetest nature and was loved by all those that knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Many thanks to her doctors, nurses, caregivers, neighbors, and all who participated in her care and loved her during her later years.
