A man was killed, and two others were seriously injured, in a fiery rollover crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County on Monday night.
The fatal accident occurred on the Turnpike, near the exit ramp to State Road 429 (mile marker 267A), at around 11:45 p.m. on Monday, May 6.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2024 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on the Turnpike when the driver, a 34-year-old Orlando man, lost control of the vehicle near the exit ramp.
The car proceeded to veer off the roadway, colliding with a sign. FHP stated that the vehicle then traveled into the median gore before crashing into several trees.
After striking the trees, the car overturned several times. The driver and front right passenger, a 32-year-old Orlando man, were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and they were both ejected from the vehicle, according to FHP.
A trooper noted in the report that the car soon became engulfed in flames.
The passenger who was ejected sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.
The driver and a 24-year-old female passenger from Orlando were both hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries that were sustained in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
