Orlando motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run crash after car runs stop sign

A 24-year-old Orlando man was killed on Sunday evening after a car ran a stop sign and struck his motorcycle at an intersection in Osceola County.

According to a preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place at around 7:35 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, at the intersection of Monterey Road and KOA Street in Poinciana.

FHP stated that an unknown vehicle, believed to be a 2008 to 2010 Honda Accord, was traveling southbound on Monterey Road, near the posted stop sign at the intersection of KOA Street.

At the same time, the Orlando man was heading westbound on KOA Street, near the intersection of Monterey Road, on a 2005 Honda motorcycle.

An FHP trooper noted in the report that when the unknown vehicle reached the stop sign at the intersection, the driver “slowed but failed to come to a complete stop.” As a result, the vehicle entered the intersection, and its front section struck the right side of the motorcycle.

After the collision, the motorcycle was redirected into the path of a 2015 Ford Explorer. The motorcycle then crashed into the right front section of the SUV, according to the report.

The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The report stated that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, a 54-year-old Kissimmee woman, was not injured. She remained at the scene of the crash.

The unknown vehicle fled from the area prior to the arrival of FHP troopers and homicide investigators.

According to FHP, a car part was located at the scene that may belong to a mystic green metallic 2008 to 2010 Honda Accord. The vehicle should be missing its front bumper.

In the report, a trooper noted that the hit-and-run crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 407-737-2213 or the Central Florida Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS(8477).
