At around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 900 block of Clark Avenue in DeLand in reference to several shots being fired in the area.

Deputies arrived on scene and learned that the shots were fired during an alleged “home invasion robbery” incident. According to the sheriff’s office, a thorough investigation revealed that four men had entered the residence to rob the occupant.

VCSO further stated that the four suspects and victim knew each other from “prior narcotics transactions.”

During the incident, the victim pulled out a firearm and fired a total of 17 shots at the suspects. According to VCSO, three of the suspects fled from the scene in a vehicle, which was also struck by several rounds.

The sheriff’s office stated that two of the suspects in the vehicle were injured, and they were dropped off at a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Deputies later located the suspects’ vehicle in Daytona Beach, and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver was detained in handcuffs, and bullet holes were observed on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The fourth suspect was spotted on foot near the incident location and was also apprehended.
