Wrong-way crash on Orange Blossom Trail leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a wrong-way crash on Orange Blossom Trail early Sunday morning.

The fatal accident occurred at around 2:25 a.m.  on Sunday, May 26, near the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Jones Avenue in Orange County.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a sedan (2013 Kia Optima) was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Orange Blossom Trail, near the Jones Avenue intersection. At the same time, an SUV (2012 Toyota RAV4) was heading southbound on OBT, near the same intersection, in the outside lane.

A trooper noted in the report that as the sedan headed the wrong way on OBT, it collided head-on with the SUV.

The sedan’s driver and sole occupant, a 42-year-old Eustis man, was transported to AdventHealth Apopka, where he was pronounced deceased. His name was not released by FHP.

The two occupants of the SUV – a 51-year-old woman (driver) and 72-year-old woman (passenger), both from Orlando – were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
