Bicyclist struck, killed by car in Kissimmee

A man riding a bicycle was killed on Sunday morning after he was struck by a car near an intersection in Osceola County.

The fatal crash occurred at around 8:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, at the intersection of Florence Villa Grove Road and Westside Boulevard in Kissimmee.

According to a report from the Florida Highway patrol, three individuals – a 24-year-old man (driver), 21-year-old man (passenger), and 20-year-old man (passenger), all from Sumter, South Carolina – were traveling eastbound on Florence Villa Grove Road, near the intersection of Westside Boulevard, in a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu.

The bicyclist, a 59-year-old man from West Palm Beach, was also approaching the same intersection while heading eastbound on Florence Villa Grove Road in the bicycle lane.

An FHP trooper noted in the report that the Chevrolet Malibu veered into the bicycle lane, and its front section proceeded to strike the rear of the bicycle.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. His name was not released by FHP.

The Chevrolet Malibu’s three occupants were not injured, and they remained at the scene of the accident.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
