62-year-old man pleads guilty to child porn possession

A 62-year-old Brevard County man is facing up to two decades behind bars after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.

On Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg of the Middle District of Florida announced that William Alfred Harris of Cape Canaveral has pleaded guilty to possession of child sexual abuse material.

According to the plea agreement, in January of 2023, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified Harris as a target after he downloaded child sexual abuse material on an unspecified file-sharing platform.

Later that year, in May, the FBI executed a search warrant at a residence belonging to Harris. During the search, his laptop was seized by law enforcement.

A forensic examination of the laptop revealed files containing child pornography, along with several “file wipers” and encryption software.

This case was investigated by the FBI. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Testerman.

Harris faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
