A 19-year-old Orlando man was killed on Wednesday evening after his car was struck by a Lynx bus near the entrance to Valencia College’s East Campus.
The fatal crash took place at around 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at the intersection of N Econlockhatchee Trail and Valencia College Lane in Orange County.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the Lynx bus was traveling southbound on N Econlockhatchee Trail, near the intersection of Valencia College Lane, in the left turn lane.
The car, a 2004 Infiniti G35, was heading northbound on N Econlockhatchee Trail, approaching the same intersection while in the outside lane.
FHP stated that the traffic light was green for both vehicles, and the driver of the Lynx bus – a 59-year-old man from Orlando – attempted to make a left turn onto Valencia College Lane. As the bus was turning, its front right section proceeded to strike the left side of the car.
After the initial impact, the car veered off the roadway and struck a concrete wall. The car then overturned before crashing into a pedestrian traffic signal.
The driver and sole occupant of the car sustained fatal injuries, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name was not released by FHP.
The Lynx bus had five passengers onboard at the time of the accident. A trooper noted in the report that the driver and passengers were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
