Orlando man with over 200 videos of child porn sentenced to 6 years in prison

A 44-year-old Orlando man who was caught with over 200 videos depicting child sexual abuse has been sentenced to six and a half years behind bars.

On Friday, June 7, Charles Bernard Long was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Carlos Mendoza to spend six years and six months in federal prison for possession of child sexual abuse material.

According to court records, on May 20 and June 1, 2023, law enforcement investigators used an unspecified file-sharing program to download multiple files of child sexual from a device that was traced back to Long.

During an interview with Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents, Long admitted that he had been using an online program to “collect” child sexual abuse material over the past year.

Long told the FBI agents that he had viewed the images and videos in question because he was “curious.”

Investigators removed multiple digital devices from Long’s home, including a laptop that contained approximately 22 images and 238 videos depicting child sexual abuse material. While a majority of these images and videos had been deleted, they were recovered using a forensic tool.

In addition to receiving his prison sentence on Friday, Long was also ordered by the court to forfeit the laptop which was used during the commission of the offense.

The investigation was led by the FBI, and the case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel S. Lyons.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
