The Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced this week that detectives have finally confirmed the identity of a homicide victim who was killed near Apopka in 1993.

According to OCSO, hunters contacted law enforcement on October 2, 1993, after skeletal remains were found in a vacant lot on Binion Road in Orange County.

The sheriff’s office launched an investigation, and evidence revealed that the victim had been murdered. However, despite the efforts of law enforcement, the case went cold as investigators were unable to identify the human remains for three decades.

That all changed this year, thanks to advancements in genetic genealogy and a partnership between the sheriff’s office and Othram Labs.
