Thomas Dorton

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas “Tom” Dorton, beloved father, husband, son, grandfather and great grandfather on Sunday, June 2nd in Orlando, after a long battle with Dementia.

Tom was the middle child of three sons born in Highland Park, Michigan on November 17, 1943, he was the son of Carnell John Dorton and Ellen Rue Dorton. The family eventually moved to Clawson, MI where he attended Clawson High School and met the love of his life, Debbie Dorton. Shortly after high school Tom joined the Navy and was stationed in Kingsville Texas where he served on the flight line. He received his honorable discharge two years later and then married the love of his life, Debbie Dorton on July 30, 1965.

Tom was active in the American Legion Old Glory Post 183 where he served as a past post commander. During his time with the American Legion he would often be found sitting outside with his cup of coffee by the lake talking with other members, especially his Navy buddies and helping wherever he was needed by putting together donation baskets, goodie bags and passing out Halloween candy.

He is survived by his Daughters, Patsy & Penny (Scott), Grandchildren Brittany and Joey , Great Granddaughter Ashley, and his Grand Dogs Saint and Kooper.

Tom will be interned at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. There will be a Celebration of life in Tom’s Honor on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at American Legion Old Glory Post 183, (2706 Wells Avenue Fern Park, FL 32730) welcome reception at 4 p.m. followed by the Celebration Ceremony at 5 p.m.
