19-time convicted Winter Park felon pleads guilty to possessing firearms, ammo

A Winter Park man with nearly 20 prior felony convictions is facing over a decade in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing several firearms and ammunition.

On Tuesday, June 18, U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg of the Middle District of Florida announced that 28-year-old Luis Rosado has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.

According to court documents, on August 20, 2023, a traffic stop was conducted by law enforcement on Rosado’s vehicle after he was observed committing an unspecified traffic infraction. When officers approached his vehicle, they observed a Radical Firearm 7.62mm semi-automatic rifle and a Silver Eagle 12-gauge pump-action shotgun on the front passenger seat.

An interior search of the vehicle was conducted, and officers located a Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol in the glove compartment, along with assorted ammunition throughout the vehicle.

Rosado was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.

At the time of the traffic stop, Rosado had been previously convicted of multiple felonies, including 13 convictions for burglary of a conveyance, four convictions for grand theft of a motor vehicle, one conviction for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and one conviction for fraudulent use of a credit card.

As a convicted felon, Rosado is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Under the plea agreement, Rosado will forfeit the pistol, rifle, shotgun, and assorted ammunition.

This case was investigated by the Orlando Police Department, with assistance provided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Sartoian.

Rosado faces a maximum penalty of 15 years behind bars. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
