Ted Evan Durni

Durni, Ted Evan, Nov 7, 1931 – Jun 8, 2024, Age 92, was the youngest of the four “Durni Boys” (Howard, Victor and Paul) who are now together again.

Born in Buffalo, NY and resided there until moving to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1999, moving to Kissimmee in 2019. After graduating from Woodlawn High School Ted attended Alfred State College and majored in Horticulture. Ted enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves in 1951 and reported for active duty in 1953 for training at Bainbridge, MD and Portsmouth, VA. After completing his training as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class he reported to Jacksonville Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, FL where he served until 1955.

Ted then served in the United States Naval Reserve in Buffalo, NY until his discharge in 1957. He was employed by Verizon (formerly Bell Telephone, NY Telephone and AT&T) for 36 years and Alaska Electrical for 8 years. Ted’s zest for life and laughter was unparalleled and he loved conducting the Durni’s in the family song, “Down in the Old Cherry Orchard” on countless occasions.

For many years in the cold months, Ted could be found on Lake Erie off of Sturgeon Point, ice fishing whenever it was safe. Ted took it upon himself to tutor all of the younger Durni’s whenever needed. He was an all-around athlete excelling in baseball, basketball, and bowling but golf became his true passion. Ted was married to the late Jeanne Shepker of Evans, NY from 1962-1979. Ted is survived by 7 nephews, 2 nieces, 7 grand-nephews, 7 grand-nieces and 1 great-niece.

A memorial service will be scheduled by the family at a later date. Cremation will be by Baldwin-Fairchild Alternatives at All Faiths in Orlando, FL.
