Mary Priscilla Baker

Mary P. Myers Baker, age 82, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. She was born on May 27, 1942, in Washington, Indiana, to her late parents, Flavian Sr. and Priscilla (Young) Myers.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jerry Baker, her parents and three of her siblings (Janet Heiney, Jay Myers, and Flavian Myers Jr.).

She is survived by daughter Julie Baker (Leesburg), son Jay Baker (Orlando), son-in-law Chris Small, grandsons Cameron and Grant, and sister Marilyn Dearmin.

Mary attended both Stephens College and Indiana University. She was a proud Alpha Phi sister at IU. Her and Jerry moved to Orlando in 1971 where she was a stay-at-home mom of their two children until 1977 when she returned to work as a teacher’s assistant at her children’s elementary school. She later became the principal’s secretary at Union Park Elementary and eventually followed her principal to Edgewater High School. Mary retired in 1997 after 20 years with the Orange County public school system. During her retirement, she and Jerry enjoyed golfing, boating and traveling around the U.S. before their declining health took its toll.
