A 73-year-old Vero Beach woman was killed, and an 8-year-old boy was seriously injured, in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Brevard County late Wednesday morning.
The fatal crash occurred on I-95, south of State Road 46 (mile marker 223), at around 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2007 Ford F-150 with a travel trailer was heading northbound on I-95 in the outside lane when the 73-year-old female driver lost control of the vehicle.
The driver then overcorrected, which caused the pickup truck to rotate and overturn before coming to a final rest on its roof. The trailer also overturned onto its right side.
The driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The report stated that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The pickup truck had two passengers: an 8-year-old boy and 74-year-old man, both from Vero Beach. The boy was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The elderly passenger was not injured.
A trooper noted in the report that the crash remains under investigation.
Earlier this week, a 79-year-old man was killed after his pickup truck blew a tire and crashed on I-95 in Brevard County.
