Judith Mary McGovern

Judith Mary McGovern, 83, died peacefully in Winter Garden, Florida on June 23, 2024, surrounded by family. Judy was born October 26, 1940, in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, to Calvin Jackson and Betty Jane (Fox) Jump. Judy married her husband John, on March 26, 1966.

Judy graduated from Colorado State Teachers College in 1963 and taught elementary school for several years at Bristol Elementary in Colorado Springs before marrying John and raising her children. As her children reached school age, she went back into teaching – first as a substitute teacher and later teaching preschool at Our Lady of the Rockies. As the years have passed, she has found immense joy in seeing her preschool students go on to achieve great things in life.

Judy’s passion was singing with Sweet Adeline’s. She was a charter member of Sweet Adeline’s’ Velvet Hills Chorus in Colorado Springs, where she sang for over 50 years. She was a founding member of the Very Light Opera Company Quartet, formerly known as Rocky Mtn. Ltd. – a comedy quartet that went on to sing together for well over 25 years.

As a member of Sweet Adeline’s, Judy served in several positions on the Region 8 and International management teams, none closer to heart than her work with The Young Singers Foundation. In addition to her singing, Judy loved family holidays, crafts, and her dogs. Our family veterinarian would often comment that he hoped to come back as one of Judy’s dogs in his next life because she took such good care of them. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted Sweet Adeline and for her amazing laugh and sense of humor.

Judy is survived by her children – Karen McGovern, Mike McGovern, Katie & Fernando Flores, and Andrew & Tiffany McGovern; her grandchildren- Zoie and Ryan Bantigue, Max and Miley; her sister-in-law Joan McCullah, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John W. McGovern, her parents Calvin and Betty Jump; her brother and sister-in- law Jack and Kay Jump and several extended family members.
