Gilbert Navarro

Gilbert Navarro, 77, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2024 at his residence in Winter Garden, Florida. Gilbert was born on March 2, 1947 in New York, New York. He loved all of his family very much, especially growing up with his mother, Ida, and brother, Frank. He was also proud to be a father and grandfather.

Gilbert served his country in the Vietnam War as a member of the US Navy. As a veteran and avid patriot, he loved his country and what it stands for. He was a dedicated worker and spent decades as a token clerk for the New York City Subway. A friend to all, Gilbert could talk to anyone and he enjoyed doing it! As a New Yorker through and through, Gilbert was a passionate sports fan. Whether it was the Yankees, Knicks, Giants, or Rangers, he was always keeping up with his teams.

Gilbert was also fascinated with ancient Egypt, traveling to exhibits, collecting books, and always watching the latest specials. After living his entire life in New York, New York, he retired and moved to Florida to be close to his immediate family. Gilbert became a true Floridian when he began to think that winters in the south were cold. He was even known to root for the Magic, unless it was against “his” Knicks.

He was always someone that would be there for you, no questions asked. Gilbert always encouraged his family to go further than they ever thought possible. His fun-loving spirit and high energy will be missed greatly by all that knew him. He is survived by his son, Kim, grandsons Alex and Ian, brother Frank, and nephews Chris and Steven.
