A 40-year-old Orlando man was killed on Saturday evening after his motorcycle collided with an SUV that turned into his path on Hiawassee Road.

The fatal crash occurred at around 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, at the intersection of N Hiawassee Road and Burroughs Drive, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that a 2019 Toyota Highlander (SUV) was traveling westbound on Burroughs Drive when the driver, a 42-year-old Orlando woman, approached the intersection of Hiawassee Road.

At the same time, a 2024 KTM 690 SMC motorcycle was heading northbound on Hiawassee Road, near the same intersection, in the outside lane.

The SUV’s driver attempted to make a left turn onto Hiawassee Road when the vehicle entered the direct path of the motorcycle. The front of the motorcycle proceeded to crash into the left side of the SUV, according to the report.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. A trooper noted in the report that the rider was not wearing a helmet.

The SUV’s driver and sole occupant was not injured, and she remained at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
