Man threatens to leap from pedestrian bridge in Kissimmee, police say

Kissimmee police officers rushed to the intersection of John Young Parkway and Bermuda Lakes Lane on Monday morning after a man threatened to leap from a pedestrian bridge.

At around 11:10 a.m., Kissimmee Police Department officers arrived on scene, and they quickly began communicating with the man while he remained on the pedestrian bridge. According to KPD, the man “made threats to harm himself.”

A Crisis Negotiation Team soon responded to the intersection of John Young Parkway and Bermuda Lakes Lane, and they took over communications with the man.

The police department stated that after using “highly specializing training and tactics,” negotiators were able to convince the man to safely step down from the ledge.

Kissimmee Fire Department personnel were also on scene, and they took the man to a local hospital for “further evaluation and treatment.” His name and age were not released by law enforcement.

Due to the incident, all lanes of John Young Parkway were temporarily closed. The lanes have since reopened.
