The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash at an intersection near Pine Hills that left two people dead, and three others injured, on Saturday morning.
The fatal crash occurred at around 5:40 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, at the intersection of Colonial Drive and Pine Hills Road in Orlando, according to a preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that moments before the crash, a sedan (2012 Chrysler 200) was traveling southbound in the outside lane on Pine Hills Road, approaching the intersection of Colonial Drive. The second vehicle involved, an SUV (2016 Honda CR-V), was heading eastbound on Colonial Drive, near the same intersection.
When both vehicles reached the intersection, the front of the SUV struck the right side of the sedan.
A trooper noted in the report that the color of the traffic signal at the time of the crash is currently unknown.
The sedan’s driver, a 22-year-old Zellwood man, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. The vehicle’s front seat passenger, a 33-year-old Apopka man, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
A second unidentified passenger in the sedan, listed in the report as an adult male, was also taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The two occupants of the SUV – 43-year-old man and 39-year-old woman, both from Orlando – were hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
