The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for help from the public to identify the driver and two occupants of a vehicle that was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 4 in Orange County last weekend.
The crash occurred on I-4 westbound at around 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 14, near mile marker 67.
According to FHP, a red 2017 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling westbound on I-4 when the driver attempted to change lanes from the center lane to the inside lane. During the lane change, the front of the Camaro struck the left rear section of a Hyundai Tucson that was in the center lane.
The impact caused the Tucson to veer off the roadway onto the right shoulder, where it overturned. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 20-year-old woman, was not injured.
FHP stated that the three occupants of the Camaro fled from the scene on foot before being picked up by a gray or silver vehicle. The make and model of the vehicle in question is currently unknown.
An FHP trooper noted in the accident report that witnesses described the three occupants as “black or Hispanic males possibly in their early 20s.”
If anyone has any information regarding the Chevrolet Camaro involved in the crash or its occupants, the Florida Highway Patrol asks that you dial *FHP (*347) or contact the Central Florida Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS(8477).
The Florida Highway Patrol is reminding motorists that leaving the scene of a crash that results in property damage, injury, or death is against the law. For more information, visit the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ Hit-and-Run Awareness webpage.
