One person was killed, and three others were critically injured, after they were ejected from an SUV during a rollover crash on Interstate 95 in Central Florida on Sunday morning.

The fatal crash occurred on I-95 southbound in Brevard County at around 10:35 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling southbound on I-95, near mile marker 165, when the driver lost control of the SUV for unknown reasons. The driver then overcorrected, which caused the vehicle to veer to the right across all southbound lanes.

The SUV proceeded to overturn several times before coming to a final rest on the outside shoulder.

The four occupants of the SUV – an 18-year-old Merritt Island man (driver), two 18-year-old women from Cocoa, and a 17-year-old Merritt Island boy – were all ejected from the vehicle.

The driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The three passengers were all transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

A trooper noted in the report that the SUV’s four occupants were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
