Janice Davis was born in Detroit, Michigan, on August 7th, 1959, to Lula McRae and Eulice Estes. She was the fourth of ten children born to Lula McRae: Ricky, who preceded her in passing; Delphine, Bobby, Gail, Frank, Derrick, David, Mark, and Kim. From Eulice she had seven other siblings: Betty, Mario Tony, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Kevin, and Stephen, with Kevin and Stephen proceeding her in passing.
Janice graduated from Chadsey High School in 1977, where she ran track and excelled academically. She was accepted at the University of Michigan, where she earned her bachelor’s degree, and then attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she earned her master’s degree in urban planning. Janice had a great passion for helping those in need, especially those who were overlooked and discarded by the system. In college she was also a part of the study abroad program where she developed a love for traveling and other cultures, visiting places like Paris, London, Spain, Rome and Italy.
Janice met her late husband, Raymond Emmanuel Davis Sr., at Lighthouse Church in Detroit. They were smitten by each other, fell in love, and married in late 1987. Two years later, they were blessed with their oldest child, Raymond Emmanuel Davis II, on November 12th, 1989, and then two years later with their youngest, Faith Evelyn Davis, on February 15th, 1992. On August 1st, 2018, her first grandchild, Raelynn Davis, was born to her son Raymond Davis and daughter-in-law Sereniti Davis. Her second grandchild, Sage Davis, was born on February 18th, 2020.
Janice loved the Lord with all of her heart and accepted Jesus as her savior while in college. From that time on, she never looked back and spread the love of God wherever she went, making many friends along the way. She spent the majority of her church time at Detroit Christian Fellowship while residing in Michigan.
Her faith was a prominent factor in her life. Through her faith, she found hope throughout her struggles. Janice loved to journal and write poetry to uplift herself and others. She never considered herself a poet but was encouraged by her husband, Raymond Davis Sr., to share her gifts with a larger audience. She published a book of poetry called A Poetic Journey of Understanding and Hope: A man of sorrow acquainted with grief. She also enjoyed writing stories for children and painting. Janice loved her family deeply and would do anything for them. She often lent help to family and friends in need, even providing shelter when necessary. If someone needed something and she could help, it was in her heart to give. She loved many and was loved by many, and she will be greatly missed.
