A 37-year-old man from Melbourne was killed on Tuesday morning after his Ford Mustang crashed into the back of a semi-truck on Interstate 95.
The fatal accident occurred on I-95 northbound in Brevard County, near mile marker 180 (U.S. Highway 192), shortly before 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that two vehicles – a 2019 Ford Mustang and semi-truck – were heading northbound on I-95, with the Mustang traveling behind the semi-truck in the outside lane.
Several witnesses told troopers that the Mustang was speeding when the driver failed to see the semi-truck ahead. Moments later, a rear-end collision ensued.
After the front of the Mustang struck the semi-truck, it came to a final rest underneath the semi-truck’s trailer.
The driver and sole occupant of the Mustang sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 53-year-old Palm Bay man, was not injured.
All northbound lanes of I-95 were temporarily blocked near the site of the crash, and traffic was diverted off the interstate at mile marker 176 (Palm Bay Road).
The roadblock in the area has since been cleared.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
