Sharon Lynn McCatty, aged 77, passed away on July 14, 2024, in Winter Park, Florida. Born on July 3, 1947, in Brazil, Indiana, Sharon devoted her life to the field of education, positively impacting numerous lives along the way.

Sharon embarked on her educational journey at Indiana State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. She furthered her specialization by obtaining a master’s degree in special education from Oakland University. Sharon’s commitment to education led her to a fulfilling career at Lake Orion Schools in Michigan, where she spent over two decades teaching special education at the high school level. Her dedication to her students and passion for teaching left an indelible mark on the community.

Sharon loved her children and grand children very much. She always traveled back to Michigan until her Alzheimer’s made these trips impossible. Sharon and Duane loved to travel and found a new life and community in Florida. They were active members in their church at Community Presbyterian Church in celebration Fl and Winter Park Presbyterian in Winter Park Fl. Sharon had a strong faith and found comfort from all of her friends there.

Sharon is survived by a loving family, including her sons, Greg and Geoff (Kim) Fugate; grandsons Graham, Landon, Brice, and Ryun; stepdaughter Vicky McCatty-Yazzie( Mel Smith); stepson Michael (Lisa) McCatty; and grandchildren Cody, Alex, and Courtney (Johnny) Soberal, along with numerous great-grandchildren. Sharon was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Duane McCatty, his daughter Lisa Gail McCatty, her parents, William and Helen Ewing, and her brother, Brent Ewing.

Sharon’s life was a testament to her resilience and dedication, both in her professional and personal endeavors. Her legacy as an educator and a matriarch will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
