A 62-year-old Oviedo man who was caught with hundreds of videos and images depicting child pornography has pleaded guilty to felony charges and now faces up to 40 years in prison.
On Friday, August 23, Carl Vecchione pleaded guilty in the U.S. Middle District Court of Florida to receipt and possession of child sexual abuse material.
According to the plea agreement, the Internet Protocol (IP) address at a home belonging to Vecchione was flagged by investigators after child sexual abuse material was shared online.
On June 9, 2022, Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at Vecchione’s home, and his laptop was seized. During a search of the laptop, more than 900 images and videos of child sexual abuse material were discovered.
A sentencing hearing for Vecchione will be held on November 19, 2024. He is facing a minimum mandatory penalty of 5 years, up to 40 years, in federal prison.
The case against Vecchione was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, and it is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. McNeff.
Additionally, the case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
