Parade in Central Florida to honor Little League World Series champs

A parade will be held in Central Florida this weekend to celebrate Lake Mary Little League’s 12u Boys baseball team, which won the 2024 Little League World Series championship in thrilling fashion.

On Sunday, August 25, the 11-day, double-elimination Little League World Series tournament concluded with Lake Mary, representing the Southeast region in the U.S., defeating international champion Chinese Taipei.

Lake Mary’s journey in the Little League World Series began in mid-August with victories over Sioux Falls, South Dakota (2-1) and Puyallup, Washington (6-1), before losing to Boerne, Texas by a score of 4-1.

Knowing that a second loss would eliminate them from the tournament, Lake Mary bounced back with an impressive 6-1 win against Staten Island, New York before edging out Wailuku, Hawaii by one run (4-3). Both victories earned Lake Mary a spot in the semi-finals.

Lake Mary topped Henderson, Nevada in the semi-finals by a score of 6-3. They then captured the U.S. Championship with a 10-7 victory over Boerne, Texas, the only team that had previously beaten them.

In the final game of the 2024 Little League World Series, which pitted Lake Mary against Chinese Taipei, extra innings were needed to decide a winner.

At the start of the 8th inning, both teams were given a runner at second base. After holding Chinese Taipei scoreless at the top of the inning, a bunt followed by an error allowed one of Lake Mary’s baserunners to reach home plate, capping off an exciting game with a 2-1 victory.

To celebrate the accomplishments of the Lake Mary Little Leaguers, the City of Lake Mary will host a parade on 4th Street in the heart of downtown Lake Mary on Saturday, August 31.

The festivities, which begin at 10 a.m., will include a procession of public safety vehicles, a marching band, local professional team mascots, and, of course, the champions themselves.

In addition, multiple vendors will be onsite with a variety of food, crafts, and other goods, along with family-friendly entertainment.

The City of Lake Mary stated on social media that it looks forward to seeing residents and visitors come together to celebrate Lake Mary Little League’s exceptional achievements.
