Driver killed after crashing pickup truck into canal in Volusia County

A man was killed early Tuesday morning after he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a canal in Volusia County.

The fatal accident occurred shortly after 12 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, near the intersection of Tomoka Farms Road and Halifax Drive, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that a 2020 Ford F-350 was traveling southbound on Tomoka Farms Drive when the driver and sole occupant, a 43-year-old Port Orange man, lost control of the vehicle while approaching Halifax Drive.

The pickup truck proceeded to veer off the roadway to the left before overturning into a canal, according to the report.

The man was ejected from the pickup truck during the crash, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. An FHP trooper noted in the report that the man was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
