An Orlando man was arrested several days after he allegedly fled from the scene of a crash that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy and seriously injured another teen.
The fatal hit-and-run crash occurred at around 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, at the intersection of International Drive and Parc Corniche Drive in Orlando, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that a 58-year-old man, identified as Dennis Trost, was traveling northbound on International Drive in a 2016 Jeep Compass when he attempted to make a left tun onto Parc Corniche Drive. At the same time, two teens – a 14-year-old boy and 15-year-old boy, both from Orlando – were riding mini motorcycles southbound on I-Drive.
A trooper noted in the report that Trost told investigators that the traffic signal was green when he began turning left onto Parc Corniche Drive. As the SUV entered the intersection, both teens were within the crosswalk on their mini motorcycles.
As a result, the right side of the SUV struck the front of both mini motorcycles. The 14-year-old boy was transported to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children for treatment of “serious injuries,” and the 15-year-old boy was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert.
The report stated that the 15-year-old boy later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital on Thursday, September 6.
Immediately following the crash on September 3, Trost allegedly fled westbound on Parc Corniche Drive. Troopers later located his vehicle in the nearby area, and it had damage that appeared to be “consistent with this collision.”
A warrant was issued for Trost’s arrest, and he was taken into custody and transported to Orange County Jail two days after the crash. He has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, which is a second-degree felony.
In the report, a trooper stated that a criminal investigation into the crash remains active, and “additional charges are pending for (Trost).”
