Orlando police have arrested two Boone High School students after a loaded firearm was allegedly found in one of their backpacks on Friday.
According to the Orlando Police Department, school resource officers assigned to Boone High School (1000 E Kaley Street in Orlando) received a tip on Friday morning that a student was potentially carrying a handgun on campus.
OPD stated that officers quickly located a 17-year-old, 10th-grade female student who allegedly had a “loaded 9mm handgun in her backpack.”
During an investigation, officers determined that the female student’s boyfriend, a 19-year-old senior at Boone High School, had “given the gun” to her at school. According to police, the boyfriend had plans to “later retrieve the firearm.”
Both students were placed under arrest and charged with possession of a firearm on a school campus. In addition, the adult male student was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Orange County Public Schools stated that law enforcement determined that there was no threat at Boone High School.
