A 20-year-old convicted felon from Central Florida who pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition will spend nearly four years behind bars.
On Tuesday, September 17, U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton sentenced Lake Mary resident Dominick Yvon Louissaint to 46 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
Louissaint pleaded guilty to the charges on June 18, 2024.
According to court records, on January 24, 2024, Sanford Police Department officers responded to a call about a suspected burglary. Upon arrival at the incident location, officers made contact with Louissaint and ordered him to show his hands.
Instead of complying with officers, Louissaint attempted to flee on foot. After he was apprehended, the officers discovered that he was carrying a Taurus pistol, a box of ammunition, and two ski masks.
Louissaint has previously been convicted of felony robbery and firearm-related offenses. Therefore, as a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.
After being sentenced to prison on Tuesday, the court also ordered Louissaint to forfeit the pistol and ammunition involved in the offense.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Sanford Police Department, and it was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Varadan.
Additionally, this case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which is a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
