A 67-year-old Orlando woman was killed on Monday morning after she was struck by an SUV while walking across Sand Lake Road in Orange County.
The fatal crash occurred at around 5:35 a.m. on Monday, October 7, on Sand Lake Road, west of the Turkey Lake Road intersection, in Orlando, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that a 2010 Ford Escape was traveling eastbound on Sand Lake Road in the center lane when the elderly pedestrian walked in a southbound direction across the roadway. She proceeded to step directly into the path of the SUV.
As a result, the front of the SUV collided with the woman. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, identified in the report as a 53-year-old Orlando man, was not injured.
An FHP trooper noted in the report that the crash is currently under investigation.
