A 50-year-old Orlando woman was killed after her car struck another vehicle that was stopped at a red light in Orange County on Monday night.

The fatal accident took place at around 11:55 p.m. on Monday, October 7, near the intersection of S John Young Parkway and Destination Parkway in Orlando.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was traveling southbound in a 2019 Kia Forte on John Young Parkway, near the intersection of Destination Parkway, in the inside lane.

Ahead of her vehicle, in the same lane, two vehicles – a 2015 Toyota Corolla and 2006 Honda Accord – were stopped for a red light.

FHP stated that the Kia’s driver failed to stop in time while approaching the Toyota, and a rear-end collision ensued. The impact then pushed the Toyota forward, causing its front section to strike the rear of the Honda.

The driver and sole occupant of the Kia was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Her name was not released by FHP.

The Toyota’s two occupants – a 34-year-old man (driver) and 42-year-old man (passenger), both from Orlando – were not injured. In addition, the driver and sole occupant of the Honda, a 27-year-old Orlando man, was not hurt.

An FHP trooper noted in the report that the cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
