The search for a missing 7-year-old boy came to a tragic end on Tuesday morning after his deceased body was found near his family’s home in Orlando.
Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, October 14, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a missing child alert for Emerson Felix.
According to the alert, Emerson’s family last saw him in the area of Flintshire Street, which is near the intersection of Rio Grand Avenue and 40th Street in Orlando.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office launched a search for Emerson early on Tuesday morning. Shortly before 10:30 a.m., OCSO provided the following update:
“We are devastated to inform you that our deputies have found Emerson Felix, deceased, in a body of water near his home where he was reported missing.”
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives are actively investigating Emerson’s death to determine how this tragedy occurred.
No further details were released by law enforcement.
“We mourn Emerson’s loss and extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family, his classmates and all who love him,” stated the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The official cause and manner of Emerson Felix’s death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
