Ronnie Nance died unexpectedly on September 13, 2024, in Orlando, Florida at the age of 78.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of almost 56 years Betty Nance. Brother Robert Nance (Jonesboro, Arkansas), sister Cheryl Webb (Collierville, Tennessee) and two sons Rod Nance (Connie) and Brad Nance (Aamani). Three grandsons JT Dunn, Hunter Nance and Justin Nance.
Ronnie was born on December 27, 1945, in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Walter and Louise Nance. Ronnie joined the Navy June 21, 1965, where he served in Vietnam. Ronnie received The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal (with two bronze stars), Navy Unit Accommodation Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea). He was honorably discharged June 20, 1969. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Rollins College. He served the Sanford Police department for 25 years, retiring in 2001 as a Lieutenant.
Ronnie was an avid hunter and enjoyed his time outdoors especially in NC and spending time with his family. He and Betty also enjoyed re-enactments and traveling yearly to the Alafia River Rendezvous -the largest pre-1840 living history encampment in the Southeast.
Ronnie did not want a funeral but rather a Barbeque Celebration. A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Sanford Moose Lodge 2660 S. Palmetto Avenue, Sanford, FL 32773.
